An excellent, well proportioned, long door, highly figured and contrasting walnut veneered case with breakarch top, the hood with side windows and brass insert fluted columns. Typical chevron stringing and walnut crossbanding, the base with raised panel and two step plinth, the lower, shaped.

Obadiah Smith of Ratcliffe High Way London is recorded "apprenticed to Thomas Lumpkin, Master, Citizen and Clockmaker, Middlesex, London, 30th May 1718 for 7 years at a premium of £20, then transferred to John Allen in May 1720 when, it is believed, Thomas Lumpkin died as he is not known after 1719."

Obadiah Smith was a known member of the Clockmakers Company in 1725 - about the time he made this clock. Recorded died 1727 in Kingston on Thames, Surrey.
