Well proportioned, long door, figured walnut case with breakarch top. Book matched veneers to trunk door and to base. Matching hood rear quarter columns.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with wheatear edge engraving, ringed winding holes, matted and engraved dial centre, and convex, extravagantly engraved, sunburst to arch. Blued, cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
High quality, 8 day movement with 5 knopped finned and ringed pillars ( 5th pillar latched ). Countwheel striking.
MAKER DETAILS
John Watts of Canterbury is recorded - "The best of the clock and watchmakers working in Canterbury during the early and middle of the 18C was undoubtedly John Watts." It is known he was freed 16th February 1720/21. He was Mayor of Canterbury in 1744. Bracket clock by him in Canterbury museum.
