CASE DETAILS
Well proportioned, long door, oak, elm and mahogany case with breakarch pediment, "pillars attached" hood door, concave throat moulding and breakarch top to trunk door. All set on shallow bracket feet.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with moonphases to arch. THE MOONS AGE engraved to "rainbow" over top of arch. Engraved amd silvered dial centre with subsidiary seconds dial under the 12 o'clock position, sailing ships engraved to moon "humps' with further sailing ship and "tall house" to dial centre. "John Arnold" engraved to sides of date lunette below dial centre and CHILD - OKEFORD engraved below that. Raised, cast brass spandrels. Blued, cut steel hands, the minute serpentine.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality, 4 pillar, 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking to a single bell.
MAKER DETAILS
John Arnold of Child Okeford ( Dorset ) is recorded born 1727 baptised 16th July 1727, son of Thomas ; married Elizabeth ; two sons, John and Thomas. Left tools to son John who also became a clockmaker and who moved to London.
