CASE DETAILS
Long door oak case with 3 eagle/ball finials, to swan neck pediment. Shaped top to trunk door. Good colour, good proportions and good patination
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch "minutes numbered" early "Wilson" painted dial with MOONPHASES to arch, raised gesso gilded borders to flower painted corner spandrels, subsidiary seconds dial and "sad mouth" date aperture. The dialmaker is recorded at 11, Great Charles Street, Birmingham, 1780 - 1808, died 1809. Blued, cut steel, hands, the minute serpentine.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality, 4 knopped pillar, 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
Jones of Chalford.Most likely Henry Jones as Daniel Jones - recorded "married 1st June 1801 ( aged 30 and upwards )" would probably have been too young when this clock was made say, ( circa 1790 ).
DATE - Circa 1790.
