CASE DETAILS
"Country made" oak and elm long door case with mahogany crossbanding and details. Typical West Country proportions, the breakarch top with blind fret under, rear hood quarter columns. All set on shallow bracket feet.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with two rocking ship automata to arch, cast brass rococo spandrels, recessed silvered seconds disc, large "sad mouth" date lunette, engraved and silvered dial centre, blued cut steel hands, the minute serpentine. Signed John Martin Cullumpton to "rainbow" at top of arch.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
John Martin of Cullumpton is recorded - " took out licence to marry in 1775, was paid £2 5s, for repairing church clock in 1778, and £1 2s 6d for cleaning the church clock in 1783."
