CASE DETAILS
Long door, medium/light oak case with breakarch top, side windows to hood, "pillars attached" hood door, and matching hood rear quarter columns. The trunk with small, neat, double fluted canted corners, the trunk door with breakarch top and the whole set on a plain strip base.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with large man o' war rocking ship automaton to arch, subsidiary seconds dial, cast brass "shell" rococo spandrels, matted dial centre with engraved detail around the square date box above the 6 o' clock position.Blued, cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality, 4 knopped pillar, 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking and pull hour repeat, the large automaton man o' war sailing ship driven from the pallet arbor in the usual way.
MAKER DETAILS
Thos. ( Thomas ) Moore of Hindon ( Wiltshire ) is recorded "Born at Chilmark and baptised there on 22nd February 1726, apprenticed to Henry Jerrard clockmaker of Hindon for a premium of ?11 on 1st October 1741, died 1786, buried 27th June". Interestingly - no mention of a marriage.
