CASE DETAILS
A very good, very small, neat, elm, long door case with decorative blind fret under flat top,"Pillars attached" hood door with matching hood rear quarter columns, all set on shallow bracket feet. Looks like oak but is in fact elm. Good proportions, colour and patination.
DIAL DETAILS
12" square brass dial with finely matted dial centre, plus engraved crown above the date box ( 6 o'clock position ), subsidiary seconds dial, "feathered head" cast brass spandrels, ringed winding holes, and early form of chapter ring with "tethered" half hour markers. Signed to the lower chapter ring Sam.l ( Samuel ) Bradley Worcester. Blued, cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality, 4 knopped pillar, 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking and pull hour repeat, the large automaton man o' war sailing ship driven from the pallet arbor in the usual way.
MAKER DETAILS
Samuel Bradley of Worcester is recorded 1728, died 1783. Interestingly, he was one of the original backers of the Worcester porcelain works.
