A very good, very small, late 18C, 8 day, flat top, long door, quarter sawn oak longcase clock with mahogany crossbanding and engraved and silvered brass dial by Benj. ( Benjamin ) Reed of Bristol.Good, warm colour and patination.

CASE DETAILS

A very good, very small, typically West Country, flat top, long door, quarter sawn oak case with mahogany crossbanding and details. "Pillars attached" hood door, plain strip base.

DIAL DETAILS

12" square engraved and silvered brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and large, typically Bristol area, large "sad mouth," date lunette. Signed Benj. Reed Bristol to dial centre. Blued, cut steel hands.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

Good quality, 8 day, 4 pillar movement with hourly rack striking.

MAKER DETAILS

Benj. ( Benjamin ) Reed of Bristol. Recorded 20, Peter Street 1775 - 1792 then 70, Castle Street 1792 - 1797.
