CASE DETAILS
Well proportioned, oak case with flat top, Greek key pattern under, 'early' cushion moulding below that, 'columns attached' hood door with matching rear quarter columns and concave throat moulding. The long, flat top, trunk door with moulded edge, the base with 'd' mouldings.All set on a shallow decorated plinth.
DIAL DETAILS
12" square brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial, square date box, engraved and finely matted centre having ringed seconds and winding holes plus cast brass "Indian head" spandrels. Blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
High quality, 8 day, 5 pillar movement with "early" hourly ( internal countwheel ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
George Thatcher of Cranbrook ( Kent ) is recorded as taking Obadiah Body as an apprentice in 1716. Died 1773.A good early Kent maker.
