A good, small, well proportioned, long door, oak, 8 day, longcase clock with 'Wilson' 12" painted dial and moonphases to arch by James Wood of Dorchester . Engraved 1807 to front plate of movement. Now sold.

CASE DETAILS

Small, neat, long door, oak case with breakarch top, breakarch side windows to hood, brass capped fluted hood columns, breakarch top to trunk door and plain strip base.

DIAL DETAILS

12" breakarch 'Wilson' painted dial with moonphases to arch, delicately painted, well executed 4 seasons spandrels, subsidiary seconds and date dials. Blued cut steel hands.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

Good quality 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking.1807 Engraved to front plate of movement.

MAKER DETAILS

Ja.s ( James ) Wood of Dorchester. Recorded born circa 1741, apprenticed to Arthur Mitchell of Dorchester in 1755. Worked in High East street, Dorchester 1793 c1803.

DATE - Dated 1807.
