CASE DETAILS
Well proportioned, long door, oak case of good colour and patination with pierced fretwork under flat top hood. "Pillars attached" hood door with rear hood quarter columns, mahogany crossbanding to trunk door and raised breakarch base panel.Moulded detail to trunk verticals.All raised on shallow bracket feet.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with engraved sun to convex boss in arch, finely matted dial centre, silvered subsidiary seconds ring and chapter ring with "floating" half hour markers to latter.Scroll engraving around the square date box. Cast brass "urn" corner spandrels.Blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 8 day, 4 knopped pillar movement with hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell.Displays some individual touches.
MAKER DETAILS
John Arnold of Childockford also spelt Child Okeford and Child Oakford ( Dorset ) is recorded born 1727 died 1801.Known for 8 day and 30 hour longcase clocks with brass dials.Turret clocks also known, including one with Portman family crest engraved on frame and dated 1764.
