Small, pretty, slender, long door, "country made" oak case with breakarch top, mahogany hood details, mahogany crossbanding to ( elm ? ) trunk door and mahogany crossbanding to base panel. The hood door with "columns attached."Quarter columns to rear of hood.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch early "Osborne" painted dial with raised gilt gesso bordered flower painted corner spandrels, rocking ship automaton to arch, "sad mouth" date aperture and Arabic "minutes numbered" to outer edge of Roman chapters.Raised gilt gesso scrolling to oval automaton aperture.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 8 day, 4 pillar movement with hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell.
MAKER DETAILS
F. ( Francis ) Capon of Exmouth is unrecorded ( as yet ) but dating by style the clock is circa 1790. N.B. Maker of the same name recorded ( watchmaker ) in Ottery St. Mary 1838 - likely the same man, or son of.
