Well executed, high quality, 4 pillar, 8 day, movement with nicely turned details.Hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell, pull hour repeat, strike/silent. This example has the so called "table top" unusual seatboard arrangement so typical of the Stancliffes and others in the Halifax school of clockmaking catchment area at the time.

Joseph Stancliffe of Barkisland is recorded born the son of John ( also a clockmaker ) 1740.

Baptised in Ripponden and believed apprenticed to William Finch, watchmaker 1753. Worked with his father who died in 1780 prior to which output was allegedly signed Stancliffe Barkisland after 1780 the full signature Joseph Stancliffe Barkisland appears to have been used.Most of his output were simple brass dial 30 hour clocks so this 8 day, moonphase example was very much the 'deluxe' version of his work.
