CASE DETAILS
Small, neat, well proportioned, long door, walnut crossbanded oak case with flat top having blind fret under. Quarter columns to trunk and walnut crossbanding to raised panel base with canted corners. All set on shallow bracket feet.Good colour and patination.
DIAL DETAILS
12" square brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial, and square calendar aperture above 6 o'clock position. Finely matted dial centre, rococo spandrels. Blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 8 day movement with 4 knopped and ringed pillars.Hourly ( rack ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
Brandreth of Middlewich (Cheshire). N.B. This is Obadiah Brandreth son of Benjamin Brandreth, a very well respected clockmaker, who died in 1742.Obadiah appears as "a clockmaker" in the Cheshire Directory of 1782 and is known to have had his will proved 25th April 1804.
