Well proportioned oak case with inlaid parquetry star to mahogany crossbanded trunk door.Canted corners to trunk, flat top hood with boxwood and ebony stringing under.Corinthian capitals to integral hood columns. Mahogany crossbanding and details.
DIAL DETAILS
11" square engraved and silvered brass dial with springing fox and "Thos Fowle" engraved to dial centre. The chapter ring engraved into the dial plate and silvered in contrast to the polished and lacquered brass centre and corners. Blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 30 hour movement with 4 knopped pillars. Hourly ( countwheel ) striking on a single bell.
MAKER DETAILS
Thomas Fowle, Hastings is recorded "30 hour brass dial longcase clock in Hastings Museum, Old Town.Verge watch circa 1800".Repair dates with monogram known - 1809, 1810, 1811.
