A slender, well proportioned, late 18thC, 30 hour, brass dial, "birdcage" movement, single hand, oak, longcase clock with flat top by John Wilkins of Marlborough.

CASE DETAILS

A slender, well proportioned, long door, oak, case with pillarless hood and flat top with fretted frieze under.Typical 18C "cottage" clock.

DIAL DETAILS

10" square brass dial with finely matted dial centre, "floating" half hour markers to chapter ring,Blued cut steel single hand.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

Good quality 30 hour "birdcage" movement with turned brass pillars.Hourly ( countwheel ) striking on a single bell.

MAKER DETAILS

John Wilkins of Marlborough is recorded as acting as a bondsman on a marriage licence in 1757 where he is described as a "Watchmaker" which, at the time, was regarded in higher esteem than a clockmaker.He is recorded as late as 1790.

DATE - Late 18thC.Dating by style circa 1765.

HEIGHT - 82.3" ( 209 cms. ).
