Typical late 18C, high quality"London" flame mahogany case with fret centred pagoda top, brass capped fluted "flying" hood columns with brass rod inserts, matching trunk quarter columns, choice flame veneered trunk door, panelled base with scalloped corners and typical two step plinth.Side windows to hood.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with "starry sky" moonphases to arch, subsidiary seconds dial, square date box, finely matted dial centre and C scroll rococo spandrels. Blued cut steel hands. N.B. Moonphase London longcases are not common.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
High quality 5 pillar, 8 day, movement with hourly ( rack ) striking.Particularly well executed moonphase work to tee shaped front plate of movement.Matched pair of brass bound weights and typical "London" brass strip pendulum.
MAKER DETAILS
Robt. ( Robert ) Sanderson of London. A silver alarm watch by him hallmarked London 1769 in the Pierpont Morgan collection.
