Case | Typical "London" very early 18C, figured walnut case. The cornice top having dark red "silk" backed fret under, side windows to hood, brass capped "pillars attached" hood door and matching hood rear quarter columns. Long, feather banded and book match veneered trunk door, with matching feather banded and book matched base. All set on a single strip plinth. | |
Dial | 12" square wheatear edge engraved dial, it having ringed winding and seconds holes, chamfered and engraved edge to square date box, crown & cherub spandrels and blued, cut steel hands. | |
Movement | Very high quality, MONTH GOING movement with 5 knopped, ringed and finned pillars, anchor escapement and hourly ( rack ) striking with pull hour repeat. Matched, period, brass bound weights. Period pendulum with "double brass" pendulum bob. | |
Maker | Matt. ( Matthew ) Vines of London - a so far unrecorded maker though there is a JAMES Vines of London recorded "Clockmakers Company 1708". | |
