Dial | 12" breakarch brass dial with name boss - Jos.h Kember Jnr. to arch, starburst engraved subsidiary seconds dial centre, cast brass spandrels, square date box and interesting engraved and silvered centre zone depicting a lake with overspill ? feature. Blued cut steel hands. | |
Movement | High quality 5 pillar, 8 day, movement with hourly (rack) striking. | |
Maker | There are several Joseph Kember of Shaw clockmakers recorded in apprentice records - one apprenticed on 24th December 1747 to Thomas Crofts of Shaw, Berks. For 7 years at a premium of 13 guineas ( £13 -13 - 0 ). Another to Edward Feysett of Shaw, Berks. 1st November 1755 for 7 years at a premium of £21. And finally to Charles Head of Speen, Berks. 5th January 1753 for 8 years at a premium of £21. The maker in question may have been one of these candidates. | |
