Case	Typical "Bristol/Westcountry" figured mahogany short door case with cast brass finial centred swan neck pediment, boxwood stringing, plus canted corners to trunk with typical "thumb" mouldings top and bottom. Printed Casemaker's label reads - From the top - Merchants and Captains Supplied William Cock Camp Writing Desk Inventor & Manufacturer Makes Every Description of Clock and Spring Case Ladies & Gentlemans Dressing & Travel Cases Ebony Ink Stands Cocks Buildings Hillgrove Street Bristol Wholesale and for Exportation. Simple strip plinth to base.
Dial	13" breakarch Finnemore painted dial with swimming ( rather than pecking ) swan AUTOMATON to arch, i.e. the whole swan moving, "overblown rose" painted corner spandrels, subsidiary seconds dial, "sad mouth" date aperture and punch decorated brass lozenge hands. N.B. The dialmaker, Finnemore of Birmingham, is recorded 1815 - 1817 at Calthorpe Street and 4, Edmund Street 1815 - 1840, opposite the Crown Inn. Traded as Finnemore & Son 1828 - 1840.
Movement	Good quality, 8 day, 4 knopped pillar movement with hourly ( rack ) striking.
Maker	Henry Wilkes of Wootton Under Edge is recorded - apprenticed 1793 to Richard Wasborough of Bristol, free 1812, working in Thornbury 1813 - 1817 and Wooton Under Edge 1820 ( Gloucester Directory ) - about the time he made this clock.
