Title	LCMAH 296
Case	Typical late 18C, high quality, "LIVERPOOL" flame mahogany case with ogee bracket feet, bookmatched veneer base panel, canted corners and brickwork quoins to base, shaped top to trunk door, fluted trunk quarter columns, matching full fluted hood columns, throat moulding with pierced fretwork under, swan neck pediment with decorated glass panels below, all surmounted by 3 "flying saucer" finials.
Dial	13" breakarch brass dial with moonphases to arch, cross hatched and "quilted" dial centre, rococo spandrels, blued cut steel centre sweep deadbeat seconds, hour and minute hands, polished brass sweep date indicator. Applied, silvered engraved name plaque "Jno Clifton, 14, Fazakerley St., Liverpool A.D. 1790.
Movement	Well executed, 4 pillar, hourly ( rack ) striking movement with centre sweep deadbeat escapement and centre sweep date. This clock doesn't tick - it purrs like a cat !
Maker	Jno. ( John ) Clifton of 14, Fazakerley St., Liverpool recorded active 1775 - 1794 when he died. Please see p.108 - 109 "Clockmakers of Northern England" by Loomes for similar example ( but not so good as this one ).
Date	This clock is a very rare example of a clock where the exact date ( 1790 ) and exact place of manufacture ( 14, Fazakerley St., Liverpool ) is known.
