A very fine, well proportioned, long door, figured walnut, brass dial, 8 day, longcase clock by Thomas Butterfield of London circa 1730.A classic of it's type.

CASE DETAILS

Typical early 18C, high quality "London" figured walnut case with flat top, pillars attached hood door, side windows to hood and "London" two step base.Good pale colour and patination.

DIAL DETAILS

12" breakarch brass dial with dolphin flanked strike/silent selector to arch, subsidiary seconds dial, chapter ring with "fleur de lys" half hour markers and with name cartouche Thos. ( Thomas ) Butterfield London applied to the finely matted dial centre above the 6 o' clock position with square date box below.Feathery "Indian head" spandrels, blued, cut steel hands. Please note : The seconds hand shown is now without the spurious "tail" which was well out of period.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

High quality, 8 day movement with 5 knopped and ringed pillars, anchor escapement, hourly ( rack ) striking and typical pump action strike/silent facility.

MAKER DETAILS

Thos. ( Thomas ) Butterfield of London is recorded apprenticed in 1719, working until 1744.
