Classically proportioned, very early 18C, flat top London "Golden Age" case of herringbone banded burr walnut with side windows to hood and typical two step base.
DIAL DETAILS
12" square brass dial with wheatear edge engraving, triple ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds dial and square date box. Strike/Not Strike lever above 12 o'clock position.Blued cut steel hands.Crown and cherub spandrels.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Fine quality, 8 day, 6 bell quarter chiming and repeating movement with hourly ( rack ) striking on a further, larger, bell.5 finned and knopped pillars.Brass bound weights.
MAKER DETAILS
Peter Gobert of London. Recorded - French watchmaker, " Free Brother", in Clockmakers Company September 1687.Paid quarterage until early 1703.
