CASE DETAILS

Typical late 17C high quality walnut/"all over" floral marquetry flat top case with blind fret frieze under cornice, side windows to hood and barley sugar twist hood columns.Abundantly overflowing classical urn, pair of finch type birds and pair of classical Greco Roman plumed heads in marquetry to the long trunk door, it having polished brass lenticle and cross grained walnut edge mouldings.The finely cut marquetry of exquisite quality and finesse.All set on compressed bun feet.

DIAL DETAILS

11" square brass dial with engraved detail between finely cast and finished "cherubs head" spandrels, ringing to winding holes and to centre of subsidiary seconds dial. Peter Garon London engraved to lower dial centre.Engraved edge to date box.Original exquisitely pierced, fretted and sculpted blued cut steel hands - among the best I've ever seen.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

High quality 8 day movement with 5 finned ringed and knopped pillars, all latched, inside countwheel striking and delicate, well executed steelwork. N.B. Fully latched plates are always a sign of high quality.

MAKER DETAILS

Peter Garon of London is recorded - born circa 1673, apprenticed in 1687 to Richard Baker.Granted freedom of the City by the Lord Mayor and made a Freeman of the Clockmakers Company in 1694.Known to have been taking apprentices in 1697. Watch by him in the British Museum.
