A good, small, early 19C, flame mahogany, QUARTER CHIMING, 8 day, longcase clock with breakarch top and silvered and engraved dial, by Henry Ellis of Lewis ( old spelling of Lewes ).

CASE DETAILS

A small, neat, pretty, long door, "typically Lewis" ( Lewes ) light flame mahogany case with breakarch top, brass insert, fluted, "flying" hood columns, plain hood quarter columns and side windows to hood.Breakarch top to trunk door, raised panel base and shallow bracket feet.

DIAL DETAILS

12" breakarch, engraved and silvered brass dial signed in flowing script - Henry Ellis Lewis, to large oval reserve in the arch.Subsidiary seconds dial, blued cut steel hands.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

High quality 8 day, 5 pillar, movement with QUARTER CHIMING on 8 bells and hourly ( rack ) striking on a further, larger bell.

Henry Ellis of Lewis is recorded Walwers Lane, Sussex 1818.

DATE - Circa 1820
