CASE DETAILS
Good, SMALL, flame mahogany, case with turned finials to shallow breakarch top, shaped top to trunk door, trunk quarter columns and plain strip plinth base. Good, rich colour and patination.
DIAL DETAILS
12" diameter silvered brass dial with engraved Roman numerals, recessed subsidiary seconds dial, "sad mouth" date aperture and blued cut steel hands. Signed - Lancaster Devonport, to lower dial centre.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Well executed, 8 day, 4 pillar movement.Hourly ( rack ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
Lancaster of Devonport ( area of Plymouth ). This will be William Lancaster. N.B. It is recorded - "Lancaster's name is to be found on good quality mahogany longcase and bracket clocks and also watches." He married Mary Pinhey ( also of a good clock and watchmaking family ) at Stoke Damerel church 20th Nov. 1771. Died 12th February 1820.
