CASE DETAILS
Typical "Westcountry" short door mahogany case with ball finial centred swan neck pediment, "wavy edge" to inner hood door, canted corners to trunk and front only shallow bracket feet. A "leaner."
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch "Walker & Hughes" painted dial with woodchopper and tree creeper ( bird ) ascending and descending adjacent tree.Single potted rose painted corner spandrels, subsidiary seconds dial, and "sad mouth" date aperture.
Decorative, punch decorated brass hands. N.B. Walker & Hughes ( the dialmakers ) are recorded at Fisher Street, Birmingham 1827 - 1835.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality, 8 day movement, with hourly ( rack ) striking.Automata driven from the pallet arbor.
MAKER DETAILS
S. Savery of Tockington in Gloucestershire is an ( as yet ) unrecorded maker though there is recorded a THOMAS Savery of Morlwood New Farm, Thornbury ( 1822 - 1851 ) a short distance North of Tockington so there is likely a family connection.
