CASE DETAILS
Superior quality, classic "London" flame mahogany pagoda top case with 3 spire/ball finials, red "silk" backed side and central frets, brass insert " flying" hood columns and matching trunk quarter columns over a panelled two step base - lower, shaped.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with moonphases to arch, "dartboard" dial centre i.e. the chapters engraved on a solid disc rather than the more conventional ring, rococo spandrels ( which retain their original fire gilding ) brass lozenge hands plus matching subsidiary seconds and date dials. The dial centre engraved Spencer Y Perkins London signifying that this clock was made for the luxury export market - in this case Portugal. N.B. The moon disc features exceptional quality, very detailed scenes, between the well executed moons.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
The very fine quality, superbly executed, 5 pillar, 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking and pull hour repeat. Very substantial forged steel strip pendulum and large, heavy "double brass" bob. Brass bound weights.
MAKER DETAILS
Spencer and Perkins are recorded at 44, Snow Hill near Newgate Street, London 1765 - circa 1810 and are highly regarded makers, known for their superior quality, diversity - longcase clocks, longcase regulators, complicated bracket clocks, high quality ( and complex ) watches, barometers, specialist instruments of all types and far reaching export markets, especially Portugal - a long standing military ally and trading partner. They have 2 pedometers in the Company of Clockmakers collection, Guildhall Museum, London.
