CASE DETAILS
Exceptional flame mahogany, long door case having "double breakarch" top, with keystone centred red "silk" backed frets under.Side windows to hood, brass mounted, brass insert fluted hood columns and matching trunk quarter columns.Raised panel base with typical "London" two step base, the lower, shaped. Mellow colour, good "warmth" and patination. Excellent quality case - the mahogany unusually dense and heavy.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with strike/silent to arch, cast brass rococo spandrels, finely matted dial centre, recessed seconds disc, recessed nameplate, centre sweep calendar and blued, cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Finely executed 5 pillar movement with hourly ( rack ) striking and pull hour repeat.The centre sweep date work of superb quality. High quality steel strip pendulum with large diameter "double brass," heavy pendulum bob with calibrated rating nut. Matched pair of brass bound weights.
MAKER DETAILS
J. ( John ) Le Roux of London ( locally 8, Charing Cross Road, Charing Cross ) is recorded 1744 ( date of birth ? ). Clockmakers Company 1781 - 1808.Known for experiments to the lever escapement with all the lift on the escape wheel teeth.Fine watch by him in the Guildhall Museum.Highly rated maker.
