CASE DETAILS
A particularly good, small, neat, long door, flat top, "country mahogany" case with red "silk" backed fret, "pillars attached" hood door, matching rear hood quarter columns, and raised panel to base. Warm, rich colour and patination.Short enough to fit into a low ceilinged room with no loss of proportion.
DIAL DETAILS
12" square brass dial with engraved and silvered centre, subsidiary seconds dial, large "sad mouth" date indicator, cast brass rococo spandrels, signed to lower chapter ring Henry Deeme Honiton. Blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 8 day movement with 4 knopped pillars and hourly ( rack ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
Henry Deeme of Honiton is recorded - married Sarah Blew ( or Blue ) at Honiton 13th September 1756 died 1786. Kept Kentisbeare church clock in repair 1762 - 80 according to churchwarden's accounts.A sample entry reads 1774 - pd. Mr.Henry Deeme for repairing the church clock?3 3s� a man and horse two days for carrying the clock to Honiton & bringing home again 4s. Numerous longcase clocks recorded .Exeter Museum has an oak longcase clock on loan from Liverpool Museum.Brass dial at Totnes Museum.Bracket clock also known.
