CASE DETAILS
Absolutely typical, late 18C, beautifully proportioned, long door, "Edinburgh" figured mahogany case with eagle/ball centred swan neck pediment and typical pierced fretwork detail under.Side windows to hood, Corinthian capped hood columns, the stopped fluting repeated in the trunk quarter columns. N.B. "Edinburgh" cases of the period are invariably beautifully proportioned and the cabinet work of high order.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch brass dial with large nameplate to arch engraved "Thos. Currie Edinburgh".Silvered dial centre with two matching subsidiary dials for seconds and for date, cast brass "shell" rococo spandrels, blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality, 8 day movement with 4 knopped pillars and hourly ( rack ) striking.
MAKER DETAILS
Thos. ( Thomas ) Currie of Edinburgh is recorded - "Castle Wynd 1793 then Hay's Close, Grassmarket, 1804". Described as Clock AND Watchmaker.
