CASE DETAILS
A well proportioned, typically "Bristol" long door inlaid and boxwood strung mahogany case with compressed ball/eagle finial, swan neck pediment, Corinthian capped fluted "flying" hood columns, shaped hood back splats, boxwood stringing to hood door, trunk door, trunk canted corners and base panel.All set on shallow bracket feet.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch "Wilson" dial with raised gilt gesso borders enclosing flower painted corner spandrels and having Arabic "minutes numbered" to outer edge of Roman chapters."Sad mouth" date aperture.Finely painted rocking ship automaton to arch.Blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Good quality 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell.Pull hour repeat.
MAKER DETAILS
Thos. ( Thomas ) Thackwell of Bristol is recorded at 95, Redcliffe St., and from 1812 to 1828 was paid to look after St. Mary Redcliffe church clock.Born 1777 died 1829.
