Stunning inlaid flame mahogany case with high quality extra "details".The swan neck pediment with hand carved "rose" paterae, having dentil mouldings under, centred by a horizontal shell inlay.
Finely cast Corinthian capitals to fluted hood columns with matching trunk quarter columns.Throat moulding decorated with broad vertical fluting flanked by oval carved paterae.Barbers pole stringing to hood door, trunk door and base.Breakarch side windows to hood.
Trunk door with fan inlay to top, base with raised panel - all sitting on ogee bracket feet.
DIAL DETAILS
12" breakarch engraved and silvered brass dial with exquisite, delicately engraved decoration, subsidiary seconds dial, "sad mouth" date aperture, "starry sky" moonphases to arch and blued cut steel hands.
MOVEMENT DETAILS
Very good quality, 8 day, knopped 5 pillar movement with tee shaped front plate to take the under dial moonwork, hourly ( rack) striking on a single bell.
MAKER DETAILS
Wm. ( William ) Avenell of Portsmouth. N.B. The Avenell family were a well known and respected clockmaking family in Hampshire for over two centuries.
