Antique Longcase Mahogany Clock -
LCMAH 255

LCMAH 255 - £15,750

CASE DETAILS

Small flame mahogany case of good colour and proportions having canted corners to hood and trunk. Brass mouldings to inside edge of hood door. Re entrant mouldings to base panel.

The case design is sometimes loosely referred to as "Egyptian style" having as it does so called "Egyptian ears" to the hood, the fashion fuelled by exciting excavations at the time in The Valley of The Kings.

DIAL DETAILS

12" square engraved and silvered brass dial with subsidiary dials for seconds and hours. Sweep minutes. Engraved across dial is "Thos. Ham Skinner Street" in script and "LONDON" in block lettering.

N.B. Square dial regulators are, generally, rarer, at the time, than their round dial counterparts.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

High quality 8 day movement having Harrisons maintaining power, deadbeat escapement, high count wheel train, six spoke wheel work and six pillar movement. Crutch assembly having fine screw beat adjustment. Wood rod pendulum with massive brass faced bob.

MAKER DETAILS

Thos. ( Thomas ) Ham, Skinner Street, London. There is recorded ( a single date ) for Thomas Ham - 1844. I am also advised by a family descendant that Thomas ( born 1815 ) was apprenticed to his father John ( born 1766 ) in 1829 when aged 14 years so the attributed date of 1844 would seem appropriate.

DATE - Circa 1844.

HEIGHT - 78" ( 198cms. ).
