Relatively small, red and gilt chinoiserie decorated case with long door, shallow caddy top and twin gilt gesso finials. The decoration of the early, simple, uncluttered form.
DIAL DETAILS
11" square brass dial with finely matted dial centre, small cherubs head spandrels, subsidiary seconds dial and winding holes low in the dial. Signed to lower chapter ring Am Cresfene Red Lyon Square. This'll be London. Blued, cut steel, hands, "double brass" pendulum bob and brass bound weights.

High quality MONTH going movement with 5 knopped and finned pillars plus early rack striking.
MAKER DETAILS
Am. Cresfene Red Lyon Square. There is recorded... Cress(e)ner Abraham, London ( Red Lyon Square ). Circa 1700 - 1710. This is probably the man -spelling being a bit whimsical before standardisation. With a name like that, could be a French Hugenot escaping from France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes which allowed free worship. As so many skilled French clockmakers did in the late 17C.
DATE - Circa 1700
Basically circa 1700 with case rebuilt from wreck, sometime later. A very handsome and decorative "furnishing piece."
HEIGHT - 87" ( 221 cms. ) or 86" ( 218.5 cms. ) ex. Finials.
