This Longcase Oak's Maker - Jno. ( John ) Godwin of Crudwell ( North Wiltshire . An unrecorded maker ( so far ) but other, less original examples, noted. There is a clockmaker - Godwin of Tetbury ( a short distance from Crudwell ) recorded "early 19C" which may be part of the same family, skills often being passed down from father to son....... and so on.

Case Well proportioned, long door, neat oak case with caddy top having fretted frieze under and tapered turned hood columns integral with hood door. Very good colour and patination.
Dial 10" square brass dial with raised, silvered chapter ring, cherubs head spandrels and finely matted dial centre. Blued cut steel single hand.
Movement Well executed, turned pillar, 30 hour "birdcage" movement with rare 1 1/4 seconds pendulum. Hourly ( countwheel ) striking on a single bell.
