This Longcase Lacquer's Maker - William Upjohn of Exeter.Recorded baptised St. Mary Major 29th March 1754 set up business in Fore Street 1775.Went to London 1803 where he died in 1812. Case Fine quality, long door, pale apple green and gilt chinoiserie decorated lacquer case with gilt pierced frets under flat top, side windows to hood, "pillars attached" hood door and two step base.The chinoiserie decoration depicting figures in pavilions to the trunk door above two figures on horseback "walking on" below that.The base, again, with figures in pavilions.Particularly nice base colour.
Dial 12" breakarch brass dial with "starry sky" moonphases to arch and "High Water at Topsham Barr" indicated above in Roman numerals.The engraved and silvered dial centre with subsidiary seconds dial and square date box. Engraved - William Upjohn Exon ( Exeter ) to silvered chapter ring.Urn spandrels and blued cut steel hands.
