|Case||Small, neat, inverted bell top ebonised case with “silk” backed finely pierced fret, cast, top mounted handle, glazed front, and back doors, glazed side windows.Pad feet.|
|Dial||7” square brass dial with cherubs head spandrels, mock bob pendulum, date box, finely matted dial centre and blued cut steel hands.Early form of chapter ring with 1/2 hour & 1/2 quarter markings.Signed in dial centre “Jasper Taylor in Grays Inn”|
|Movement||High Quality finned and knopped single fusee 5 pillar movement with original verge escapement quarter ting tang pull wind repeating on two bells with hours struck on a further single bell. Superbly engraved backplate signed “Jasper Taylor in Grays Inn”.|
|Maker||Jasper Taylor in Grays Inn ( London ). Recorded born circa 1671, son of the famous Thomas Taylor of Holborn, apprenticed to him 1685/6 til 1692.Freed 1692.Clockmakers Company 1695 – 1714.|
